Worth it if you already live in Notion and are on a team. Full Notion AI — Agent, AI search, AI Meeting Notes, Enterprise Search — only exists on Business at $20/user/month annual (~£15). That's a $10/user jump from Plus, and it's all-or-nothing across the workspace. As a reason to adopt Notion from scratch it's a bad buy; as an upgrade to a tool you're already paying for, the maths works from about four or five seats up. Budget separately for Custom Agent credits at $10 per 1,000.

The add-on nobody budgets for. Standard AI Agents and Ask Notion are included in your Business seat. Autonomous Custom Agents are not. Those run on credits at $10 per 1,000 monthly credits, or $13 per 1,000 on annual plans. Credits are pooled across the whole workspace and reset each billing cycle. If your plan is to have agents quietly grinding through work in the background, that’s a separate line item — model it before you commit.
What’s Actually in the 2026 AI Suite
The Business plan bundles four things that used to be separate or didn’t exist:
Notion Agent. The headline feature. It takes multi-step instructions and acts across your workspace — creating pages, filling databases, restructuring content. Standard agents are included in the seat.
Notion AI search / Ask Notion. Ask a question in plain English and it searches the workspace, synthesises an answer and links back to source pages. This remains the genuinely differentiated feature — no general-purpose chatbot can answer questions about your own work without this kind of index.
AI Meeting Notes. Recording and summarisation built in, which overlaps with what you’d otherwise pay Fireflies or Otter for. If you’re already on Business, check whether it kills a subscription before you renew one.
Enterprise Search. Third-party connectors — Slack, Google Drive, Jira and similar — searchable from the same box. Note the limitation below.
Where It Falls Down
This is the part the marketing skips, and it’s where the buying decision actually gets made.
Retrieval, not action. Enterprise Search and the connectors are built to find things, not do things. Notion AI can tell you what a Jira ticket says or what a Slack thread concluded. It cannot update the ticket’s status, reassign it, or post the follow-up message. If you’re imagining an assistant that closes loops across your stack, that’s not what this is yet.
Output quality scales with workspace hygiene. Independent reviewers consistently report that Q&A accuracy degrades on large, poorly-organised workspaces. This is the single biggest predictor of whether you’ll be happy with it. A tidy, well-linked workspace gets useful answers; a five-year sprawl of untitled pages gets confident nonsense. Garbage in, garbage out — and Notion AI is unusually sensitive to it.
Agents are fluent, which is not the same as correct. Custom Agents write well and act quickly, and that combination reads as competence. Reviewers in 2026 repeatedly land on the same advice: treat them as junior operators whose work you check, not as background processes you trust unsupervised. Notion provides audit logs — use them.
Hard analysis limits. AI-driven data analysis caps out at around 1,000 rows for CSV work, and it isn’t built for complex calculation. It’s a knowledge tool, not a spreadsheet engine.
Performance degrades on heavy workspaces. Large databases and intricate relational setups slow things down, AI or not.
All-or-nothing across the workspace. You can’t mix plans. Either the whole workspace is on Business or nobody gets full AI. On a 10-person team where three people need AI, you’re still paying for ten seats.
Notion AI is a sensible upgrade and a poor standalone purchase. The unique value is Ask Notion and Enterprise Search — answering questions about your own accumulated work, with citations back to source pages. Nothing else on your stack does that. But the 2026 repricing means you can't buy it in isolation: it's bundled into Business at $20/user/month annual, doubling the Plus rate, applied across every seat whether they use AI or not. If your workspace is well-organised and your team is already in Notion daily, that upgrade pays for itself in retrieval time alone. If your Notion is a graveyard of half-finished pages, fix that before you pay for AI to search it.

What It’s Good At (and What to Use Something Else For)
Use Notion AI for:
- Summarising long pages, meeting notes and research dumps into something scannable
- Expanding rough bullets into prose
- Turning brainstorms into structured outlines
- Finding the answer buried across forty internal docs
- First-draft internal documentation, where the AI has context from linked pages
Use something else for:
- Brand voice and thought leadership. Notion AI writes in corporate-neutral English. Getting your actual voice out of it takes more prompting effort than writing it yourself.
- Long-form published content. Output is structurally sound and tonally flat. Expect substantial rewriting.
- General-purpose reasoning. ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro (both around $20/month, ~£15) are stronger pure assistants. The split is simple: general AI for thinking, Notion AI for asking questions about your work.
- SEO content. Different category entirely — that’s Surfer or Writesonic territory.
How It Compares
vs ChatGPT Plus / Claude Pro. Both are more capable as writers and reasoners. Neither can search your workspace. Most teams end up running both, which is worth admitting before you frame Notion AI as a replacement for anything.
vs Microsoft 365 Copilot. Same pitch — AI inside the tool you already use. If your company runs on 365, Copilot has the home advantage. If it runs on Notion, this does.

Per seat, per year, that’s $120 (£89) on top of what you pay now. For a five-person team, $600/year (£444) of incremental spend.
It’s worth it when:
- Your team searches Notion daily and loses real time to it
- Your workspace is well-structured enough for AI to navigate
- You’d also use the non-AI Business features — private teamspaces, SAML SSO, advanced permissions, unlimited guests on paid plans
- AI Meeting Notes lets you cancel a separate notetaker
It isn’t worth it when:
- You’re solo (buy ChatGPT or Claude instead and stay on Plus)
- Only a minority of seats would use AI — you pay for all of them regardless
- Your workspace is disorganised, in which case the upgrade buys you faster access to worse answers

Our Verdict
Notion AI in 2026 is a reasonable feature set at a price that only makes sense in context. Bundled into Business, it stops being a gadget you evaluate and becomes part of the cost of running Notion seriously.
The genuinely valuable bit is narrow and real: asking questions about your own accumulated work and getting a cited answer back. If that describes a problem you have, the upgrade is easy to justify. If your team barely opens Notion, no amount of AI fixes that.
Buy it if: you’re a team already in Notion daily, your workspace is reasonably tidy, and you’d use the Business-tier admin features regardless.
Skip it if: you’re solo, your workspace is a mess, or you’re evaluating Notion primarily because of the AI. That last one is the expensive mistake.
